  • Description:

    A Supervisor is responsible for directly overseeing a group of team members in a specific department or work area. The Supervisor is held accountable for his team in meeting production goals, production quality, safety, training, and documentation guidelines as established by the Company. The Railcar Inspector is responsible for inspection of railcar/railcar components and creating accurate repair estimates/billing/reports to facilitate maintenance and qualification of railcars/railcar components. The Railcar Inspector is also responsible to ensure inspection and maintenance is conducted in a safe and quality manner. The purpose of this position is to ensure the railcar is maintained and returns to service in compliance with owners, regulatory, and industry standards/specifications.

    Railcar Inspection experience is required. Essential Duties Include:
  • Participates and supports Widely Important Goals (WIG)
  • Performs thorough inspection of railcars/railcar components
  • Maintains current knowledge of government, industry (FRA & AAR), customer, and company policy, procedures, and work instructions
  • Inspects and ensures workmanship meets government, industry (FRA & AAR), customer, and company quality requirements
  • Inputs estimates for maintenance and qualification and alterations into computer estimate system
  • Proficient in the interpretation of drawings and specification, including weld and nondestructive testing symbols
  • May participate in root-cause investigations, and corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by QA Manager
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual will possess the following knowledge, characteristics, skills and/or abilities:

  • Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Visio, Intelex, Entrust, Syspro,
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • Foster teamwork with proven leadership skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Must successfully complete the following training and become certified within 90 days of hire or job transfer and on a three-year recurring basis:

  • Quality Assurance Program
  • Hazmat, General Awareness, Function Specific, and Security Training.
  • Education and Experience

    High School diploma required; knowledge of transportation regulations.

    Preferred: A minimum of 5 years rail car experience. Previous supervisory experience. NDT Level II in VT, MT, PT, UT, LT, IR; AWS CWI

    Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Requires long periods of standing; walking, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, and entering into confined spaces and elevated surfaces
  • The team member in this position is required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • Thorough understanding of the MSDSs, company safety policies / practices, and proper use of identified PPE which may involve protective clothing, sleeves, hard hats, foot protection, eye / ear protection, respirator use, etc.
  • With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions
