  • Work to continuously improve the effectiveness (talent and policies) of the technology team.
  • Ensure the technology team continuously upgrades their skills in such items as Design of Experiments, protecting IP, polymer characterization, compound process ability, etc.
  • Set budgets and monitor outcome.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve internal procedures and project management systems. Set policy and strive to improve New Product Development execution and overall team effectiveness.
  • Own the quality system and ensure continuous quality improvement within polymers facilities.
  • Connect across the organization to actively lead a portfolio of development projects, source ideas from their own experience and actively cull ideas from published work, IP and supply chain contacts.
  • Follow-up and hands-on engagement to ensure practical work is soundly executed.
  • Drive project meetings and cross-functional review.
  • Follow projects through their entire lifecycle from idea through verification and validation.
  • Lead capital projects to upgrade and expand current laboratory facilities.
  • Actively engage in the polymer, additive and fine chemical supply chain to acquire new ideas, concepts and solutions.
  • Keep up with current state of the art via reading, industry contacts and industry engagement and \"sell\" new project concepts to the executive team.
  • Disseminate project updates and outcomes to executive management.
  • Travel to sites to provide hands-on leadership for the dispersed technical team and represent company at the highest level with customers and suppliers.
  • Additional project and responsibilities may be necessary from time to time at the direction of executive management.

  • Skills associated with graduate degree (PhD or possibly MS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology or Polymer Engineering), with a minimum of 15 years' experience with increasing responsibility. Demonstrated ability in direct leadership and team formation. Working for at least some period in a development position in the wire and cable or compound supply industry is important. For this position, a track record in business development or P&L responsibility is a definite plus. Experience in the plastics industry is required. A background in polyethylene, HDPE or PVC is a plus.
  • Proven experience in wire and cable development; well versed in electrical and cable types and specifications.
  • Strong experience in compound development in plastic or rubber field.
  • A track record of solving practical problems with definite evidence of solutions working in commercial quantities and the entire product life cycle.
  • Sound background in electrical, physical and rheological characterization of polymer materials and well versed in the wide variety of cable industry routine and type test specifications.
  • Solid exposure to polymer or compound development in other markets; for example automotive or building materials.
  • Experience in, and more importantly interest in intellectual property creation and protection.
  • Experience with best practice in organizational design for technology activities.
  • Committed to utilizing and improving best technical practice.
  • Solid understanding of statistical methods and experimental design techniques.
  • Enthusiastic promoter of best practice project management tools and techniques.
  • A \"thought leader\" in new test and compound development techniques.
  • Professional approach.
  • Enthusiastic engagement in industry symposiums, trade shows and customer meetings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs.
